Top 10 Books Out of My Comfort Zone That Ended Up Favorites

tttcomfortzone

Hi all! How is your week going?

I am still reading Glass Sword and I just don’ know how I feel about it. It’s kind of not really living up to my expectations and it really pains me to say that. But I am hoping it picks up because I don’t want to not like this book 😦

Anyway, before I start another rant that I am sure my boyfriend is sick of hearing, it’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday!

TTT is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, please check here for future topics!

This weeks topic is books that you read recently that were out of your genre/comfort zone that you ended up really liking.

So without further ado…

Outlander

Outlander-blue-cover-198x300

I AM SORRY! Yes, I have to mention Outlander AGAIN, but I am really proud of myself for reading this book! And even more proud that it is not one of my favorites. I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone with this book because I usually hate reading long books. And if this series doesn’t intimidate you…then well…wow because it definitely did me!

The Martian

The_Martian_2014

Another new favorite. I really don’t even know what made me want to read this book because it’s definitely not my usual genre, but it was so fantastic!

Ready Player One

021915_ReadyPlayerOne_Cover

Now this is still techinically YA I suppose but it’s not something I would usually read. I am not a gamer by any means. I don’t play video games, nor do I even try to understand them but this book really makes me want to! I loved all the references and the feel to the entire book. It was so vivid and makes me feel like I was in the stimulation myself. I really really enjoyed this book. It was so much fun to read.

Gone Girl

I actually really enjoyed this book. I was hooked and totally creeped out by the crazy. I ranted to my mom the entire time while reading this book. I would rush out of my room screaming and yelling telling my mom everything that it made my mom feel like she read the whole book right along with me XD

Modern Romance

modernromance

This is nonfiction. I don’t read nonfiction. Ever. But it is Aziz Ansari and even though it was more academic than I thought it’d be, I still really enjoyed it.It probably helped that Aziz still put his flair and humor whilst talking about some serious subjects. He made it entertaining and informing at the same time.

Percy Jackson

percy

Middle grade. I didn’t even want to touch Middle Grade because I thought it would be a little too kiddie for me but surprisingly enough this is one of the best series ever! I can’t believe I waited this long to finally read them! It’s not completely out of my comfort zone because it’s still Fantasy and I love love love Fantasy, but I am including it because it’s mostly MG.

Yes, I still need to read The Heroes of Olympus series 😦

And that is honestly all I can think of that I read recently. Whoa I didn’t even have 10. If that’s not a sign that I need to mix it up then I don’t know what is! So this year I better rectify this and read some more books out of my comfort zone because this is just sad 😥

Any suggestions?

Until next time,

I have to include these because they were just fantastic. I loved the humor,  adventure, Greek mythology, and characters. I had a ball reading these books.

3.  The Wrath and The Dawn

18798983

This is such a great retelling and I love the world and romance. I have never read A Thousand and One Nights but this makes me want to!

4. The Young Elites

tye

God bless, Marie for writing an antihero fantasy novel ❤

5. Throne of Glass

MaasSeries.1

I am sorry. I feel like my blog has become the Throne of Glass/SJM promotion page or something and you guys are tired of me talking about it but, can you blame me?! It’s fantastic.

Also, I tried to think of other genres to include such as Adult Fiction, Sci-Fi but none of them make me as happy as these books. So sorry!

Anyway, there you have it! All my fantasy reads that hold a special place in my heart ❤

What are your top 5 books?

I loved both of these books so much! I had planned on finishing Red Rising by now, but I really needed a cute contemporary so my hands immediately reach for Colleen Hoover. I tried reading Off the Page by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer but I had to DNF it at a little over 100 pages. I just couldn’t get into it. It felt too juvenile to me ):

what do you think you’ll read next?

Without a doubt! I cannot wait to start this beauty!!

Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods
Author: Rick Riordan
Illustrated by: John Rocco
Published by: Disney Hyperion
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Middle Grade, Mythology
Pages: 336
Series: A Companion to Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Synopsis:

A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like, Can we do this anonymously? Because I don’t need the Olympians mad at me again. But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week.

So begins Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic–and sarcastic asides–to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on a who’s who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. “If you like horror shows, blood baths, lying, stealing, backstabbing, and cannibalism, then read on, because it definitely was a Golden Age for all that.”

Dramatic full-color illustrations throughout by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco make this volume–a must for home, library, and classroom shelves–as stunning as it is entertaining.

Opinion:

“In the beginning. I wasn’t there.”

This book was fantastic! The writing was superb as always and the illustrations were stellar! John Rocco’s style of capturing all our favorite Greek Gods were truly mesmerizing. I loved seeing these huge full page picture to correspond with each story. Each story is told from our favorite demigod, Percy Jackson and he still has his unique sense of humor and sass that we all know and love. If all my textbooks were narrated by Percy Jackson I might have been better able to understand History in high school.

“Hey girl,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows. “You must be the riptide, ’cause you sweep me off my feet.”
He’d be practicing that pickup line for years. He was glad he finally got yo use it.”

I don’t really have too much to say about the overall plot since it was just short stories about each God loaded with sass from yours truly. But I can say that if you really liked the Percy Jackson series, you’re going to love this. The illustrations are beautiful, the writing is exactly what we can expect and love from Riordan, and the design of this book is fantastic! Sure it weighs a ton, but it’s gorgeous to look at.

“So Aphrodite married Hephaestus and the celebrity ship Aphrophaestus completely dominated Olympian tabloid news for like a thousand years. Did they live happily ever after? HAHAHAHAHA. No.”

“I mean, five gods in one stomach—dang. That’s enough for doubles tennis, including a ref. They’d been down there so long, they were probably hoping Kronos would swallow down a deck of cards or a Monopoly game.”

Emoji Book Tag Challenge

FullSizeRender (1)Hello! I am doing another tag because I saw this on #lovebooks blog and thought it would be fun to have because I love books and I love emojis!

For this challenge, you take your top 5 most used emojis and combine them with a book. Let’s do this!

IMG_6549

*Purple heart*

For the purple heart I’ve chosen Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. Purple is my favorite color and this book is my absolute favorite book by Cassie Clare. I like to use the purple heart for everything and to me this book is everything. I mean come on, it has William Herondale! This book is fantastic. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful. I think this is the best conclusion to a trilogy I have read to date.

IMG_6545

*Hysterical crying face*

I frequently use this crying face every time I am having a fangirl moment or I just have so many feeeeeels and this book, this book has all the feels! If you’ve read the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas then you know what I am talking about. This book completely shattered me. I was mentallry prepared and I knew what was coming, but I don’t think anything could have prepared me for that! I want to cry just thinking about it!

IMG_6546

*Too Much Sass*

To me this girl is flipping her hair with way too much sass. I use this emoji when I am feeling sassy and no one is as sassy as Percy Jackson! They don’t call him Persassy for nothing! This guy is one of my favorite characters ever and I wish I could read everything in Percy’s voice. Seriously, this guy had me cracking up while I was reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. He is so sarcastic and just says whatever he thinks. I really need to read the HoO series ASAP.

IMG_6547

*Kiss Me*

This winky kissy face is flirty and lovey all at the same time. I use this emoji quite a lot and there is no other book I could have paired this emoji with other than Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Perkins writes the most adorable contemporary stories and I love this one to pieces. When I think of this book I just remember all the flirty moments between Etienne and Anna and their almost adorable love story. This is the book that got me into reading contemporary novels and it holds a special place in my heart.

IMG_6548

*Laugh Crying face*

This is the emoji that I use when I am laughing so hard that it hurts and I have to pair this up with Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. The whole Lux series is quite hilarious and it had me rolling in laughter. I loved Daemon’s sarcastic attitude andthe teasing between him and Katy. It’s really a fun series and if you haven’t read it, I suggest you give it a chance. It can be a bit cheesy as many other YA novels are, but I think these were so fun and addicting.

Well there you have it! Some of my favorite books and emojis. I hope you enjoyed reading this!
If you did, make sure you hit the follow button!

Happy reading!
