Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo | Book Review

I have been trying for the past couple of days to form a coherent thought about this book. I am failing so hard but let’s give it a go.

Title: Crooked Kingdom
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Series: Six of Crows #2
Publisher: Henry Holt
Release: September 27, 2016
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 546

When you can’t beat the odds, change the game.

Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city’s dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.

This book was such an emotional journey. The highly anticipated sequel to Six of Crows definitely delivers and lives up to all the hype. In fact, if I had to think of the perfect ending for our beloved Crows this book exceeded that. I was laughing, crying, hugging my pillow, covering my eyes, and had my heart racing the whole time. Action-packed plot will leave you breathless.

This book finally brings readers exactly what we have been waiting for since SoC: Wylan’s POV. Thank you, Leigh, for this precious cinnamon roll gift from the Gods! This preciousness is everything. His POV was fantastic and heartbreaking and swoonworthy! Every single scene he shares with Jesper truly delivers some of the best parts of this book. Their relationship is so pure and wonderful. I couldn’t wait for more scenes between those two. I don’t know how Leigh switches POVs between six characters so smoothly, but she has it down to a science. The story changes scenes and you hear from exactly the right character at the right time.

All these characters are so unique and lovable that it’s so hard to choose a favorite! I dare you to try to choose one. I can’t. I love each and every one equally because they are all that great. I don’t know the last time I have been in love with this many MCs.

Plus, if you’ve read The Grisha Trilogy, you’ll see some familiar faces. I know I was fangirling! <30

Like SoC, this book surrounded a type of heist. We see the Dregs picking up the pieces of where SoC ended, We need Inej, we need to end Van Eck, and we need to do it fast. The way everything played out was so brilliant that I couldn’t even believe how smart and clever some of the schemes were! I was applauding Kaz and crew, and Leigh for that matter!

There’s not much I can say without spoiling this book, so I will just say: read this book immediately. Perfect ending to a perfect duology. I am going to miss the Grishaverse so much. I am already missing the Dregs! If you haven’t picked this book up yet, I really don’t know what you’ve been doing.

Sidenote: If you haven’t read Six of Crows yet, stop what you’re reading and read that immediately. You’ll thank me later.

T5W: Fictional Items I Want

Hello! Here I am again finally doing a T5W! I really liked this topic so I couldn’t pass it up.

Top 5 Wednesday is a group/meme created by Gingerreadslainey from booktube. You can check the Goodreads group for future topics.

This week’s topic is fictional items that you want. So since I want pretty much everything from every book I read, this may be hard to narrow down! But let’s get to it!

5. Witchlight – The Shadowhunters Chronicles

This scene is one of my favorites where Jace gives Clary her first Witchlight and I just want one too! They are so much cooler than a flashlight!

4. Pensieve -Harry Potter

Some of my favorite parts to read were the memories through the Pensieve. I just think having a way revisit memories this vividly is exciting. We can’t always remember memories as well as they happen and you can preserve them to relive.

3. Morozova’s Stag amplifier – Grisha

The minute we learned about the amplifiers and Alina’s Morozova’s stag I wanted it for myself! The amplifiers are a cool concept for our Grisha. Where’s mine? And where’s my kefta too?

2. Stele – The Shadowhunters Chronicles

I just really want to be a Shadowhunter, okay? 😥

1. Wand – Harry Potter

harryswand.gifAnd A WIZARD! 😥

Well that’s a wrap. I really tried not to make my whole list all Harry Potter or Shadowhunters because I totally could have. I want so much from both of those series because they are both my favorite.

What fictional item do you really want?

Until next time,

Book Tag | Soundtrack to My Life

FullSizeRender (10)

Hiiii! 🙂 Today I was tagged to do the Soundtrack to my Life book tag! Thank you so much Perfection in Books for tagging me!

Opening Credits: Favorite Childhood book

My mom used to read this to me and this is just “our book” so it holds a very special place in my heart ❤ Love you, Momma!

Waking up: A book that got you out of a reading slump.

I am going with Winter because if you follow my ramblings you know that I was in a slump recently and just could not read anything. I picked this up and it kicked my slump’s butt so hard! IT WAS FANTASTIC!

School: A book you had to read for school that you ended up loving.

I actually really loved this book while reading it in high school. I actually read ahead of our schedule and finished it before our class. I haven’t read it again since and don’t know how I’d feel about it now, but while in HS I really enjoyed it.

Falling In Love: An author you love so much you want to read all of their books.

Sarah J Maas. Leigh Bardugo. Colleen Hoover. Cassandra Clare. Marie Lu ❤ just to name a few hehe

Fight: Book with the best action sequences.

Break up: A book or series you didn’t finish and do not intend to finish.

I only read the first book and it just was average. I don’t really care to finish?

Hanging With Friends: Book you think everyone else should read.

SIX OF CROWS! Can I rave about this book enough?

Breakdown: Book that seriously affected you/had you crying your eyes out.

This hurt my soul a little bit and I still feel a pang whenever I think about it. But it was so good!

Roadtrip: You favorite series (more than 3 books).

THRONE OF GLASS FOREVER AND ALWAYS! I chose the UK editions for this because all the photos I found didn’t include QoS

But I’d also choose The Lunar Chronicles, The Mortal Instruments, Vampire Academy. Can I include Outlander even though I’ve only read the first book? I’m doing it. OUTLANDER!

Getting Back together: what book can you not stop rereading.

THG is my favorite trilogy of all time and I’ve read them half a dozen times each. No regrets.

Wedding: A book that is really special to you.

Sorry I am choosing this again because this is really want made me get into Dystopia and just god, I love it so much. Before I read this I was reading Paranormal and cheesy books like Twilight. Once I picked up THG I started to explore more YA genres and I never looked back.

Moment of Triumph: Longest book you’ve ever read

I FEEL SO ACCOMPLISHED FOR THIS! OMG It was so long and I did it!!

Death Scene: Book or series you wish had ended differently.

I won’t say anything for anyone who hasn’t finished this series, but I just had higher expectations. I didn’t want the “and they lived happily ever after” aspect. ugh and my ship DID NOT SAIL!

Funeral: Book with the best or worst epilogue.

That is all.

End Credits: Who do you tag?

You, You, and You!

But I also tag:

Calliope the Book Goddess

Cassidy @ The Little Book Cottage

Giselle @ Hardwork Boulevard

Jessica @ Mud and Stars

Raven @ Dreamy Addictions

Veda @ Bookzillan Society

There you have it! As always, if you’ve already done it please ignore. And if you would like to, YOU’RE TAGGED! ❤

Happy reading! xoxo

The Burrito Bowl Book Tag! 🌯

Wow I can’t believe I am finally doing a blog tag! I have been so inactive and I feel awful 😦 But I thought it was about time to sit down and at least do one tag.

This tag was brought to me by Dimple over at Enthralling Dimple. Thank you so much ❤

So without further ado, I’ll get started 🙂

RICE: THE FOUNDATION – “The book that got you into reading (or book blogging).”

3478 twilight-books

Now I am picking these two because they both mean something different. I used to love reading as a child, but it wasn’t until I read Nicholas Sparks that I really got into avid reading. Twilight was the gateway into YA and even if it wasn’t the best of series and I don’t really like it anymore I still have great memories of wanting to read every YA novel I could get my hands on. So thanks, Meyer 😉

BEANS: THE FILLER – “A book with a whole lot of nothing happening.”

I honestly can’t think of a book right now?

PROTEIN: THE BUILDING BLOCK – “A book quote to live by.”

“You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if  only you dared.”- Sarah J. Maas

FAJITAS: THE CRUNCH OF TEXTURE – “A book with immaculate world-building.”

I love the Grisha world so much! Leigh Bardugo creates one of the best worlds I have read to date and I can’t get enough.

SALSA: THE DANCE OF FLAVOUR – “A book that kept you on your toes.”

Need I say more?

CORN: THE EXPLOSION OF SWEETNESS – “A memorable scene involving friendship/romance.”

Friendship: I just love Juliette and Kenji so much. Their friendship was one of my favorite parts in Ignite me because he truly accepted her and stood by her side. Besides, Kenji is hilarious!

CHEESE: THE BOND OF CALCIUM – “Two characters from different books you wish could be friends.”

celaena  tumblr_nv056jP0aH1sf51ago5_250

Celaena (Throne of Glass) and Nina (Six of Crows) HOW AWESOME WOULD THESE TWO BE TOGETHER? Okay, it may only be me, but they are both so strong female characters 🙂

SOUR CREAM: THE TANGY TOPPER – “The quirkiest character you’ve ever read (protagonist or supporting).

Definitely The Lunar Chronicles. We have such a great cast of characters and it’s so hard to choose a favorite. Cinder! No, Kai! No! Thorne! Iko! Ahh ❤

GUACAMOLE: THE COST OF CREAMINESS – “A book you paid too much for (based on utility experienced).”

I hate this book. The fact that I paid for it and it’s hardcover really makes me mad.

LETTUCE: THE HANDFUL OF CRISPNESS – “A refreshing concept/theme in a book.”

I just loved how this book involved a marine suffering from PTSD.

CHIPS: LE PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE – “A must-read recommendation if you like [this book/genre—you decide!]”

Ahhh I am drawing a blank! 😥

TABASCO: THE KICK TO THE FACE – “Your favourite fight/action sequence.”

The entire heist! I loved every second and if you haven’t read this book yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! ❤ 😀

There you have it! I am not going to tag anyone because it took me centuries to get to this, but if you would like to do it, i officially tag you! xoxo ❤
