Best book and/or series that you’ve read in 2016

crooked  ACOMAF  tms

I am sure many people are going to be mentioning ACOMAF, but I had to include it because it blew me away. Crooked Kingdom and The Midnight Star were great finales this year and deserve so much recognition.

Best Series:

Definitely The Young Elites by Marie Lu, Shades of Magic by VE Schwab, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo,ILady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, lluminae Files by Amie Kaugman and Jay Kristoff were some of my absolute favorites

A Darker Shade final for Irene  Illuminae Ray V6FrontOnlyA2A_V3.indd  .ladymidnight

Authors that You’ve recently found and would love to read more from:

  • Victora Schwab – Shades of Magic. I really wanted to start reading her Archived series. This Savage Song was another great book tat I read from her this year.
  • Roshani Chokshi – The Star-Touched Queen. Though it wasn’t my favorite book of this year and was a bit disappointing when I found out it was a standalone, Chokshi’s writing captivated me.
  • Tarryn Fisher – F*ck Love. I really enjoyed this book and found it a bit addicting. I need to read more books by her because she seems like an awesome person too.
  • Adam Silvera – More Happy than Not. Oh my god this book was absolutely fantastic. History is All You Left Me is one of my most anticipated of 2017 now. I need more of Adam’s books!

Most anticipated book turned movie/tv show?

I am not really a fan of book adaptations because more likely than not, I am always disappointed. So I like to envision my favorite books in my head just the way I love them.

Although I am interested in seeing what they did with Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon and Ready Player One.

Name a character that you wouldn’t mind sharing a kiss with at midnight (if there is one)

Rhysand. Always Rhys. ❤

What’s on your TBR for 2017? (Top 5 will suffice if it’s an extremely long list!)

crystalstorm hiaylm  flamemist

these are just a few because I am constantly adding books, but I do want to read more diverse books too in 2017. Also, I know Crystal Storm is out already but my book is on the way, so by the time I can read it it will be 2017 anyway. 😉

How many books do you hope to read in 2017?

I am not too sure yet, but I will say about 60. I don’t want to set a too high goal because I will stress myself out. I read over 100 books this year so I am satisfied. If I don’t read that next year, it’s not the end of the world. 🙂

Will you participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge or any others (PopSugar, Read the Books You Buy, etc.)

Absolutely. the Goodreads challenge is the only challenge I am faithful to complete. I don’t do too well with readathons or other challenges because I tend to get distracted or want to read whatever I want so I can’t stick to anything but the Goodreads goal. Oops.

Any New Year’s Resolutions? (Bookish, blogging, and otherwise)

Read more diversely. Also, blog more. I definitely didn’t blog much this year and I am ashamed of myself. 😦

Well that’s it! I am not going to tag anyone, but if you would like to do this tag please feel free!

Top 5 Books I Want to Re-read

It has been a very very long time since I’ve done a T5W so I thought I would today when I saw this week’s topic. Let’s talk about the books we want to reread! We all know we want to go back to some of our favorites. Now is the perfect time to showcase them!

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam, Thoughts on Tomes on booktube (former Gingerreadslainey). Please join the goodreads group for future topics!

Now without further ado…

These are just a few books that I really want to reread. Daughter of Smoke & Bone is so underrated and it’s magic is fantastic. I remember falling in love with this book from page one. As for the others, well…they reside in me and I desperately want to go back into those worlds. I have been wanting to reread November 9 since November 9th. I regret that I wasn’t able to. Maybe now that I just finished My Lady Jane I can???

What are some books you want to reread?
Have you read any of these?

thanks for reading!

until next time xxoo

The Beauty and the Beast | Book Tag

Hello! It’s been awhile I know, but today I am excited because my lovely friend Ari from The Daydreaming Bookworm tagged me to do The Beauty and the Beast book tag! Now if you know me you know Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite Disney movie! So I am ecstatic to do this tag finally! Thanks Ari ❤

♥ Thank the person who tagged you.
♥ Mention the creator → Kirsty @ Kirsty and the Cat Read.
♥ Match a book to each of the songs/characters below.

♥ Tag as many people as you like.

Let’s get started!

“TALE AS OLD AS TIME” – A popular theme, trope or setting you will never get bored of reading

Second chance romances! I love love love when couples come back together for a second chance at love! It gives me so many feels and makes me so happy. Especially when the characters were best friends and they get a second chance! ❤

BELLE – A book your brought for it’s beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too

Definitey Six of Crows. This book has one of the most beautiful covers. The Crows wing and how it gives the silhouette of the buildings. Plus, the inside? OMG BEST BOOK! This is one of my favorite books of all time.

If you haven’t read it yet, please do ❤ you won’t regret it.

BEAST – A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you

outlanderI didn’t think I was going to really like this book going into it. It was too long, it was too old (time-travel), but when I got started oh my heart I fell in love immediately. Now Outlander is one of my favorite series and Jamie Fraser is the love of my life.

Plus, the tv show just the book justice. It’s so fantastic!

GASTON – A book everyone loves that you don’t

I wouldn’t say “everyone” loves this book because I see so many people on Instagram lately who seem to feel the exact same way I do, but it’s very popular and very well loved. Especially on booktube. Because of this I thought I would love it just as much as all the booktubers I watch loved it, but I didn’t. I still don’t. I am currently trying for the second time to read the sequel and I am just not that into it. Curse my curiosity!

Oh well, how did you feel about this book? Does the series get better?

LEFOU – A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counter part

I can’t help, but choose Kenji from Shatter Me every single time this question gets asked. I love Kenji so much and he’s part of the reason I loved the Shatter Me books. He was funny and such a great friend to Juliette. I want Kenji as my best friend! 😦

MRS. POTT, CHIP, LUMIER & COGSWORTH – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable.

Feyre’s struggle and journey was so inspiring. Maas really showed the demon’s one faces when dealing with PTSD and seeing Feyre fight through it was important. She battled her depression over what she did and came out stronger than ever. Plus, Rhys and his feminism? Yes.

“SOMETHING THERE” – A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end

Iathousandnights wasn’t really into this book in the beginning because I couldn’t help compare it to The Wrath and the Dawn, but towards the end I ended up really enjoying it and how much they differed from each other. Each are a A THousand and One Nights retelling, but they each shine in their own way. I loved this take on why the king was doing what he was. I thought it was interesting.

“BE OUR GUEST” – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner

rhysRhysand all day every day.  Thank you very much. ❤
I mean he is my boyfriend so of course he would be over for dinner. right?

but seriously. I am so in love with this man that it’s become obsessive.

If you’ve read ACOMAF, you will understand. And if you have and didn’t fall in love with Rhys then I really don’t know what went wrong but he’s wonderful!

I am not going to tag anyone because it took so long for me to do this tag. But! if you would like to do this tag…consider yourself tagged!

Thanks again, Ari! And thanks for reading!

until next time,

Stranger Things Book Tag

Hello! Are you obsessed with Stranger Things like I am? Well that’s great because it’s time for an amazing book tag dedicated to our new obsession, Stranger Things! I just finished watching this show recently after I binged it in basically less than 24 hours because it was that addicting! If you haven’t watched it yet, you need to.

This tag was created by A Running Commentary, thank you and Flavia the Bibliophile for tagging me!

the first book in a series that left you intrigued and slightly confused

startouchedI am choosing The Star-Touched Queen because I remember in the beginning I was so confused! I had no idea what was going on half the time and the world slightly confused me. Even though I ended up really enjoying this book, I was still a little unsure of what exactly was happening while reading. I still wish we were given just a little bit more.

a book with a setting you would never want to live in

Ihungergames am a huge fan of The Hunger Games. It is one of my favorite books ever, but I am sorry but I do not want to live in this whole! Being selected to enter the Hunger Games would definitely frighten me each year. Knowing me, I would last like 2 seconds. So nope. Don’t sign me up!

a book you own that is somewhat damaged, but loved to pieces

I hate to do this, but I am choosing The Hunger Games again because my copy is so worn and torn. There’s a section of pages almost falling out because I’ve read it so many times. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve read it. ❤

a trilogy you always go to whenever you need a pick-me-up

ACOMAFAfter reading ACOMAF, the Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy is now one of my favorite trilogies ever and I will definitely keep going back just so I can visit my boyfriend Rhys ❤ again and again. Every time I miss him, I go back and read some of my favorite parts that I have tabbed.

You really can’t go wrong with Rhys ❤

a book with a terrifying beast you wouldn’t want to face in a dark alley

asosI had a hard time choosing an answer for this one. So I decided to go with the Whitewalkers in A Song of Ice and Fire series. Those suckers creep me up and every time they show up, I start stressing out! I mean I could literally pick anyone from this series because everyone is terrifying. Even the humans! Am I right?!

a book with a villain who is both manipulative and dedicated

sebmorJonathon Morgenstern takes the cake for this one! I think he is my favorite villain! He was an even better villain than Valentine, in my opinion. I loved how manipulative he was, the lengths he went to get his twisted goals accomplished.

a book you didn’t expect to love

fallingkingdomsFalling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes, for sure. I had so many doubts that I would actually enjoy this series because so many people had mixed feelings. I thought the hype would have lessened by interest, but it was so fantastic! Yes, it feels a bit like Game of Thrones but for YA but that doesn’t take away it’s greatness. There are so many interesting characters and story lines that you can’t help, but get invested. I can’t wait for the next couple of books! I need more Magnus Damora!

a book with a setting that’s just a little bit strange

theravenkingI have to agree with Nisha’s answer. Henrietta from The Raven Cycle just bleeds “strange” that is so intriguing. Plus, ley lines, psychics, and hello the Raven boys!

Now it’s your turn! (if you want)

Olivia – Books & Coffee

Cassidy – The Little Book Cottage

Kat – Life and Other Disasters

xxoo! Thanks for reading! Now go watch stranger things, if you haven’t already!

until next time,

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag | 2016

Wow I cannot believe this year is almost over. Where has time gone? We are already halfway through July! Thank God too because I cannot wait until summer is over!

With that being said, I am going to do the Mid-Year Freak Out tag. I had planned to do this last month but I am feeling a little unmotivated to write posts. I am trying to get back into the swing of things but with this heat it’s very hard.

Oh well. Here I am.

I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I did it last year and liked it so I thought I’d do it again!

Best book you’ve read in 2016 so far

ACOMAFI cannot say ACOMAF. I feel like I am still in a hangover over this beautiful book. I have read other books, yes, but I keep thinking about these characters and this story. It was just so wonderful and beautifully written. I loved the character development and twists SJM gave us. I am so excited we are getting more books in this wonderful series. It’s definitely become my favorite! Plus, my fae bae Rhys ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016

agosDefinitely AGOS. I have fallen for this series completely. Head over hills. The magic system, the different Londons, the amazing characters! Everything is so fantastic and just beautiful that I can never seem to want to put my book down whilst reading. If you haven’t started this series, you really need to. It’s so fantastic and the writing and world that Victoria created is breathtaking.

New release that you haven’t read yet but want to

startouchedThis was on my list of most anticipated debut novels and I regret that it is still unreadBut my birthday was over the weekend and I got some B&N cash to spend now and this was the first book that I ordered! Once it arrives I am going to devour it!

Most anticipated releases for the second half of the year

I have many more but these are just some of them. Oh my gosh and The Midnight Star by Marie Lu. I am litterally itching to get my hands on that book!

Biggest disappointment

thecrownThe more I think about this book the more I get upset. While I loved her choice in the end because that was who I was rooting for I am still upset that this book was so short. It felt so underwhelming and I wanted a more of a BANG for a conclusion to one of my most beloved guilty pleasure reads. I really think she should have stopped writing books after The One because that had a great conclusion and this was just meh. Oh well, it was still nice to see America and Maxon together once more 😀

Biggest surprise

frozentidesThis series has quickly become one of my favorites. I chose this as my surprise because I didn’t know how much I was going to like it going into the books when I have seen so many mixed reviews from people I follow on GR. However, from book one, chapter one I was hooked. I marathoned the current four books quickly. I cannot wait for book 5! Let’s not forget about my bby Magnus Damora ❤ I fall more and more in love with him. Can I have Crystal Storm now?

Favorite new author (debut or new to you)

victoriaVictoria Schwab! I follow her on Twitter and I don’t even know why I never read her books until this year but I am so glad I picked up ADSOM because holy guacamole! Those books ❤

I can’t wait to get to This Savage Song because it sounds fantastic and so many people have said nothing but amazing things.

Newest fictional crush

magnusdamoraazrielI could say Rhysand because my love for him is so strong, but my crush on his isn’t new. I fell in love with him in ACOTAR so! I am choosing Azriel the Shadowsing (ACOMAF) and Magnus Damora.  I just couldn’t choose between the two so both they go. 😉 I almost put the entire inner circle of the Night Court so I guess be thankful that I didn’t turn this whole post into ACOMAF 😉 hehehamil

Azriel photo cred: PhantomRin | idk the artist for Magnus

Newest favorite character

I am choosing Prince Rhy Maresh because he is such a precious cinnamon roll. And if I mention Rhy I just can’t not mention Alucard. These two will be the death of me.

Also I am going to choose Emma Carstairs because she is such a bad@ss. I fell in love with Lady Midnight and The Dark Artifices. I love Jules and all the Blackthorn kids. Especially Mark. I can’t believe i didn’t mention this book sooner!

If you haven’t read Lady Midnight yet please drop what you’re doing and read it now! It’s glorious. Well only if you’re caught up in the Shadowhunters Chronicles because it’s better experience if you are.

Book that made you cry

asosRed Wedding. I am still not over it.  I hate this book because of it. That is all I am saying.

Book that made you happy

roseanddaggerI am a puddle of feels just thinking about this book. I am so happy for my ship and everything that happened. I loved this book so much and this is my favorite duology and retelling! Seriously, if you haven’t read this duology yet…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far (or received)

Seriously guys, this book is beautiful. It has one of the best spines I have ever seen! Plus the deckled pages and pages themselves are just gorgeous! Everything about this book is wonderful. I probably could have chosen is as a book that made me cry because I was an emotional mess reading this book. Seeing so much of Lin’s heart going into Hamilton was so inspiring and beautiful. If you’re a fan of Hamilton then you really need this book in your life. Plus all of Lin’s footnotes are just great. I love this man.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year 2016?

Okay I really need to get my act together and read these. Especially Fangirl. I have had Fangirl on my shelf forever and still haven’t read it. Help convince me to read it right now???? JK I know, I know. I am working on it….

Well there you have it! My Mid-Year Freak Out. See any of your favorites on my list too?

I am not tagging anyone specific but if you want to do this tag, please feel free to do so! It’s fun 🙂

What book is your favorite of 2016 so far?? Send me some recs! xxoo
