Royal Bond (Royal #1) by Megan Maldonado

They are forever…

Sydney Field’s life is a rollercoaster on steroids with one constant—Ryan Edwardson.

Best friends since a projectile crayon incident in kindergarten, Sydney and Ryan have stuck it out together through thick and thin, pranks and rants, and anything in between.

One kiss changes everything…

As Sydney does her best to sort through her new found feelings for Ryan and mend what she broke in their friendship, the rollercoaster makes a complete one-eighty, unveiling Ryan’s lifelong secrets.

Thrust into a world chalk full of royalty and kingdoms and wielders, Sydney starts to wonder what’s up or down, right or wrong, reality or fantasy.

In a twist of events, Sydney finds herself enveloped in a world she never knew she belonged to. Friends become enemies, strangers become her survival, and love becomes the ultimate price.

*I was provided with a copy from the author in exchange of a honest review.*

This book was quite entertaining and while it read more like a contemporary than paranormal, it still had some interesting paranormal aspects. It was light and fun and had a prince that made me fall so hard in love.

First of all, the characters were awesome. Ryan, our love interest, really held this book together for me. He was so swoon-worthy, smooth, sexy, and funny that he had me hooked from page one. I loved his relationship with Sydney. They had such a great connection and really understood each other. Even if they were fighting, Ryan would show up whenever he was needed and didn’t even care if she was still pissed at him. He cared about her so much and his loyalty just makes you melt in a puddle. This guy is wonderful. Yes, he has his issues. He is possessive and overprotective at times, but you know what? It’s valid. He respects Sydney and just wants what’s best for her.

On the other hand, Sydney could really drive you crazy if you let her. She has all the right ingredients to make you love her and relate to her, however she made me roll my eyes quite often. She is snarky/sarcastic, independent, funny, and really cares about her friends. But she also is so stubborn that you want to shake her. Any time she and Ryan are in a fight she spends chapters upon chapters just sulking and avoiding him! I kept screaming at her to just speak to Ryan to let him explain or tell him what’s going on instead of shutting him in the dark. That isn’t what friends do. They don’t leave each other hanging without a warning or explanation, especially not best friends. I get it, she started having feelings for him and was afraid of what he would say or if it would ruin their friendship, but she didn’t even give him a chance! On top of this, her sarcasm can be a little too much at times. Don’t get me wrong I loved her sarcastic comments and the way she threw her sense of humor at everyone but sometime it was uncalled for. This just made her come off as a little mean, in my opinion. Other than that, I liked her.

Now about this paranormal world. I feel a little underwhelmed with the world building. I would have liked to see so much more. We don’t really see too much of it because Syd has no knowledge of this world that her friends belong to and as a result neither does the reader. But at least 60% of the book goes by and we still don’t know anything because Syd is so stubborn and won’t talk to Ryan so the reader is left in the dark asking questions. This is why it feels more like a contemporary than paranormal. But even when we learn a little more, its still underwhelming. The end rushed by so fast and was over before it even got started. I feel like only the surface was scratched and I want to know so much more.

Speaking of the end, the epilogue. Oh man the epilogue is just cruel. Now I am a girl who loves her happy endings. I can deal with a little heartache if it was done correctly, but this was just mean. The last few chapters come out of left field! It was just thrown and ends at the biggest cliffhanger! If I don’t give more Ryan and Syd and answers I don’t know what I will do! Because that was just mean 😦

This book had a few editing problems, but overall it was entertaining. The characters are great. The friendships and minor characters are fun. The writing is easy to get into and I had fun reading it. I would have liked a faster paced plot, but in the end I still enjoyed the read.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas’s masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.

No joke.

I absolutely loved that this book was a Hades/Persephone retelling! I thought it couldn’t be more perfect and fit with her story so wonderfully. I won’t post any spoilers so no worries, but this was one of the best sequels I’ve read. It was everything I was hoping for and more. Feyre kicked some @ss and really became a force to be reckoned with. We saw a great unexpected (though I totally expected it) side of Rhysand and met some wonderful new characters that will steal your heart. ❤

First things first, please don’t let your ships ruin a book/series for you. I have seen way too many negative things surrounding Throne of Glass and now this series and it honestly makes me so sad. This series is one my all time favorites now and it deserves so much love just for being what it is. It’s not about a perfect fairytale. Feyre is broken in this book and needs help. Tamlin is broken. Rhysand is broken. Everyone went through suffering Under the Mountain at the hands of Amarantha in ACOTAR and didn’t come out unscathed.

Which leads us to Feyre. She has some of the best character development that I have seen. She was so lost and broken suffering from PTSD from being Under the Mountain that it was heartbreaking. She was wasting away and being tormented by the events from ACOTAR. I felt so badly for her because she just needed someone to comfort her, to make her see that she will be okay, that she wasn’t alone. She learns to deal with her demons and becomes one of the strongest characters I’ve read. She is seriously now my favorite character of all time. Her powers, her strength, her loyalty and willingness to sacrifice herself for those she cares about.

❝I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.
I was a survivor, and I was strong.
I would not be weak, or helpless again
I would not, could not be broken. Tamed❞

Now, let’s talk about my precious baby Rhysand. I am so excited we saw way more of him than I expected. I couldn’t wait to see the Night Court and everything Rhys had to offer and let you tell you…I wasn’t disappointed. The Night Court is beautiful and I definitely wouldn’t mind belonging to their court. I don’t want to say too much about him because of spoilers but I loved him ever since ACOTAR. I was so intrigued by him and what he had to offer. I know many people didn’t like him because of everything he did to Feyre in book one, but he had his reasons. Rhys was the only one who was really fighting to help Feyre and believed in her. He stands by her side and roots for her. He shows her that she isn’t anyone’s pet or trophy and she alone makes her own decisions. He helps her. He challenges her when she needs it most. For that alone, he will always own my heart.

❝I love it when you look at me like that.❞
❝Like what?❞
❝Like my power isn’t something to run from. Like you see me.❞

Plus, Feyre does the same for him. She helps him see that he is not a monster and deserves happiness just as much as everyone else. Their connection and bond is beautiful! If you weren’t already shipping them, this book will most likely change your mind. It definitely pushed me into the deep end of obsession. I admit I shipped them in book one and I haven’t looked back! No shame. They are my OTP ❤

Plus, I dare you not to swoon every time he calls Fey, “Feyre darling” 😀

ACOMAF brings many new faces that I have such a soft spot for. Mor, Amren, Cassian, and Azriel are some of the greatest new friends and family that welcome Feyre into their Inner Circle when she really needs a family. They are all unique and wonderful. Cassian is strong, Mor is fierce. Az is mysterious, Amren is intimidatingly strong. All are warriors and love each other so fiercely.

Tamlin and Lucien, on the other hand, really upset me and that will be all I say.

I really enjoyed how Sarah is weaving her story together. She brings some history into her novels that come to play in the present and it’s epic! It will be more to see more in the next coming novel!

This was fantastic and I am just going to swim around in my feels for a bit ❤

If you’ve read it, then let’s discuss! I’d love to hear what you though! 😀

Point of Retreat (Slammed #2) by Colleen Hoover

Layken and Will have managed to overcome the obstacles that threatened to destroy their love, proving that they are destined for one another. What they are about to learn, however, is that the things that have brought them together may be the very things that ruin their connection forever…

Layken is left second-guessing the relationship whilst Will is jumping over hurdles to prove his love for her. What the young lovers discover about themselves along this journey may change their entire world, and the lives of those who depend upon them the most…

Initial reaction:

I went into this book a little skeptical because I kept hearing how amazing Slammed is but then the sequels are unnecessary and not very good. I am so glad that I disagree. This book was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. 30 pages in and I was already in tears. This book is a whirlwind of emotions and I couldn’t put it down. Yes, the plot isn’t the greatest because it seems to be a little dragged out but honestly I wouldn’t change a single thing. Colleen took her time showing you the immense love between these characters and I feel like they are apart of my life already because I love them so deeply. Every single one of them.

First of all, THANK YOU FOR WILL’S POV! It was everything I wanted and more! And second, I did not want this book because I knew that we were going to have some sort of conflict and I hated that because I just wanted my Will and Lake to be completely happy. But because it’s a sequel and CoHo, of course we were going to get some drama.

This book takes place a little while after Slammed ended and we see everyone adjusting to their new family dynamic and lives. Lake and Will have an even closer relationship with Eddie and Gavin and they are quite the family. Kel and Caulder are adorable and even made a new friend with the neighbor, eleven year old Kiersten. If you read this book and don’t say Kiersten was one of your favorite parts then you’re lying because this little girl is butterflying hilarious!

Layken: I felt so sorry for Lake. I really did. If I walked into my boyfriend’s house and saw what she saw, I would react the same way. I probably would be stubborn because I would hate to see the guy I love do the very thing he does that I love so much do to someone else. No matter how small it is, it will hurt. However, I think she went a little too long with not even letting him explain his side or talk things through. Then her tantrums over the stars from her mother were just ridiculous. Will was right, she would open every single one up and then she’d be upset that she didn’t have any left. So I understood where he was coming from. But regardless, I related to Lake. I understood her pain and her doubts.

Will: Oh good god, Will is officially bae. Top CoHo boyfriend because this man is perfect! They he loves Lake is so beautiful! I was smiling so much at everything he did to fight for her because he wasn’t letting her go. Also, the way he is with not only Caulder but with Kel? Ah so many feels!

Speaking of, how great is their relationship with the boys? Yes they aren’t exactly the most traditional parental figures, but they make do. Kel and Caulder respect them and listen to them even if they are still their siblings/best friends and that’s just so heartwarming, in my opinion. They have such a strong connection.

Honestly, I just love this book. It was light and sweet and had just the right amount of drama and sad that it didn’t bum me out. It was exactly what I needed.  It had more awesome slams (though not as many) and some great laughs, tears, and hearts-for-eyes smiling!

Plus, the little stars full of advice from Lake’s mom? OH GOD 😥

Even if this book isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it was mine and Colleen has yet to let me down!

If you’ve read Slammed and enjoyed it, but are skeptical about reading this? I say just give it a chance. You may not like it, but you may love is as well. Just give it a chance to see how you feel XD

Never Never Part 3 by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher

Together, Silas Nash and Charlize Wynwood must look deeper into the past to find out who they were and who they want to be. With time ticking down, the couple are in a race to find the answers they need before they lose everything. Can they regain what they once had? And will it restore who they once were?

So remember when I said I was going to hold off reading this because of all the negative reviews and I didn’t want to get disappointed? Well curiosity got the better with me and I just had to know what the heck was going on…So I picked Part Three up.

giphy (3).gif

Now I know.

First of all, what is up with only 92 pages?! What is the deal?! How can we wrap up everything within less than 100 pages? That’s just not possible. This “trilogy” could have been epic! It had the right build up and I honestly felt like we were on a roller coaster. You know where you are slowly heading to the top and your heart is racing and once you reach the top you go rushing down? It felt like that. This book was so fast and ended so quickly I am don’t even know what to think.

“Trust your gut. Not your heart, because it’s a people pleaser, and not your brain, because it relies too heavily on logic.”

I will say this, I still loved getting to see more of Silas and Charlie’s relationship. These two are absolutely adorable together and this novella brought even more cuteness that I couldn’t stop smiling. When Silas starts playing Silas Says with Charlie? Oh god. I couldn’t handle it.  TOO MUCH CUTE.

“I could spend every day getting to know you all over again, Charlie, and I don’t think I’d get sick of it.”

Silas was perfect and made me love him more. Charlie though! I started to hate Charlie because we saw more of her crazy reasoning and selfishness. I didn’t like her at all and am so glad that we saw some major improvement with her. She stopped thinking of herself as Charlie and more of her. Which I was screaming “FINALLY!” That was always something that bothered me from the first novella when Charlie would think of her past as someone separate from herself. I know she had no memories and didn’t feel like her, but she just pushed Silas away and her past away like there was no way that was her life. So when she finally accepts it and sees the type of person she was and wants to change it, I had to applaude her. Because she was kind of awful.

“We can’t take back who we’ve been in the past, Charlie. But we can control who we are in the present.”

But I did still love Silas and Charlie together. So I did still enjoy this book but I just felt like we should have had a better ending. Everything tied up into a nice little bow and had a perfect happy ending. I am all for happy endings but it was way too fast. The first theory that Silas thinks of…that’s what it was. Disappointing.

Overall, I am glad I read this because I couldn’t move on until I knew what was going on and it was stealing my focus. Now I can move on!

Thanks for reading! XXOO

Never Never Part 2 by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher

“Never forget that I was your first real kiss. Never forget that you’ll be my last.
And never stop loving me between all of them.
Never stop, Charlie.
Never forget.”

Silas races against time as more truths unravel, while others twist tighter together. And now, the stakes are higher as Silas’ control slips and others begin to point fingers. Charlie is in trouble and he must be the one to bridge the chasm between their past and their present. Because somewhere between I love yous and Never Nevers and Never Agains, a truth they can’t imagine, beckons to be found.

“Where are you, Charlie?”

I don’t even know what the heck I just read? This book answered absolutely nothing and raised even more questions. So I guess CoHo and Fisher are doing their job correctly 😉

This novella takes place immediately where the first one left off. Silas and Charlie have yet again lost their memories and this time Silas is trying to piece together their past while trying to find Charlie, as she is missing. This was an even quicker read and so frustrating because I just wanted to know where Charlie is what the heck is going on. However, this novella left off on another cliffhanger! Though it wasn’t as huge as the first one. I feel like I know what I am getting into this time. I have no theories at all and won’t even attempt to figure it out because I know CoHo enough to know that there’s no point. She always throws stuff at me that I didn’t expect.

I really enjoyed reading Silas and Charlie’s letters to each other and where the phrase “Never Never” comes from ❤ ❤ ❤ Their love is so adorable and they are made for each other. Seriously am so invested in their story that I will flip a table if they regain their memories and decide to call it quits. I love the way Silas thinks about Charlie and how protective he is of her. The fact that they could feel each other and feel their love even while not being around the other or even meeting the other just gave me all the feels!

I look forward to reading the next installment! However, I keep seeing so many negative reviews that it was a little underwhelming so I think I may hold of and read something else. Who knows?

UPDATE: After more thought, I now rate give this 3 stars.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Have you read Never Never Part Three? How was it? *No Spoilers*
