Andie had it all planned out.
When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future.
Important internship? Check.
Amazing friends? Check.
Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks)
But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life.
Because here’s the thing – if everything’s planned out, you can never find the unexpected.
And where’s the fun in that?
THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING HAS BECOME UNEXPECTEDLY MY NEW FAVORITE NOVEL.
This novel had so many important aspects that I love and they all mixed together beautifully. There were important relationships in this book, friendships, family, romance, and it made this book so much more special. I really enjoyed that this book flowed so nicely and you didn’t know what to expect. I had no idea what this book was supposed to be about and I think I liked it more because of this. It felt real and genuine. Andie (our MC) had no idea what the summer would bring and as a result, the reader had no idea what the summer/book would bring either. It was also really great that
This book was filled so many great characters! Our main character Alexandra (goes by Andie) has three best friends that she is extremely close to. At first it was a little hard to keep track of who was who, but I quickly was able to pick up on everyone’s quirk and personalities— which are all so different and you can’t help love each and every one of them, especially the guys! I love love love the guys in this book. They were both so nerdy and wonderful! Clark is nervous and sometimes awkward and shy and I love him so much more for this! He is the definition of a precious cupcake and has now become one of my new favorite MM bookfriends! (Sorry Frank Porter).
Andie’s journey was so uplifting. She has spent her whole life planning absolutely everything, every single detail and her future was all mapped out. So when life throws her a curve ball she is left feeling lost for the first time. She lets go of plans and her summer quickly becomes one of the best she has ever had. She lets her walls down with Clark and she is the happiest she has ever been. She breaks Clark out of his slump and their whole connection is beautiful! I couldn’t stop smiling at every scene they had together because it’s just so cute! Especially when Andie’s dad take initiative to get to know Clark. Andie’s dad was just fantastic. He and Andie are so awkward and disconnected that it was nice to see them find their way back to each other.
Overall, this book was really entertaining and now has made MM one of my new favorite contemporary authors. Everything felt so genuine and the romance wasn’t forced or fast. It took its time. The added text messages and emoji use was hysterical!
You’re going to want to pick this book up immediately! ❤
Until next time,
